“Talking To Yourself”
Working in healthcare can be exciting, rewarding and fulfilling, but it also has the potential to be stressful, upsetting, infuriating, troubling – and many more feelings beside. It is vital that healthcare professionals listen to their internal emotional responses to the work. We must strive to make sense of the complexity of the feelings that can be evoked.
Reflective practice involves the listening to, and responding to, our inner state. Most professionals do not have the time or resource to have formal therapy. However, there are a range of spaces in which we can practice this important skill.
Here, I talk about Schwartz Rounds and Psychosocial meetings as examples of these.
